September means Petit Lemans. Cool cars, great weather (mostly) and a good time.

We went to Hilton Head for summer vacation this year and had a great time. It is a beautiful place and the weather was awesome.
The island had a lot of interesting wildlife
On our way home we stopped in Savannah and visited the Bonaventure cemetery

The month of May is a magical time.
The weather is great (mostly) and then there's Indy.
I have never been to the 500, but I hope to one day. These shots are from one of the F1 races I went to a few years back. I hope they come back again soon.

We had the chance to bike the bridge a few weeks ago and it was cool to finally be able to see it up close. It's an amazing structure.

We just got back from another great trip to San Francisco. We spent time in Carmel, Big Sur and the city. The weather was perfect and I ended up shooting a lot of pics.

Old Stone Fort state park is about an hour south of Nashville in Manchester. The Duck river and Little Duck river meet and form a peninsula and Native Americans are said to have used this area as a ceremonial ground. Several mills were built there over the years following due to the abundance of water power.

I went to Fall Creek Falls state park on Saturday. It was really cold and wet, but all of the recent rain and snow meant the water levels were much higher.

Sunday, January 31, 2010

We got about 6-8 inches of snow over the past few days. I got out on the road again today since the sun was out and it was a good opportunity to get some shots before it melted.

I went downtown Saturday morning, starting out at Union Station and walked all over. I love the mixture of old and new architecture in Nashville.

"I discovered that this camera was the technical means in photography of communicating what the world looks like in a state of heightened awareness. And it’s that awareness of really looking at the everyday world with clear and focused attention that I’m interested in."
– Stephen Shore
It was foggy this morning, very eerie and cool looking.

I've been going through old images recently and I found this one. Sometimes the simplest is the best.

Narrows of the Harpeth is a park in Cheatham county a few miles outside of Nashville. I had read some about it and decided to check it out yesterday. It was a beautiful, cool, cloudless day and I was the only one out there, so it was very quiet. The view was awesome from the bluff. Another trail went around to a tunnel. This tunnel was cut straight through the bluff by Montgomery Bell to use water power to run an iron forge. It was and still is considered to be a great piece of engineering.

San Francisco has become one of my favorite places to visit over the years. It is one of the most beautiful places on earth. There are so many scenic places you go and get great shots.

The Palace of Fine Arts

Standing on the hill overlooking the Golden Gate bridge and the city was amazing.

Snow is a rare thing in this part of the country, but we have had a little over the past few days. I went out to Radnor lake today and shot about 200 pics. It was around 15 degrees and there was still a good bit of snow left. It was a lot less populated than normal, which was nice. There were some deer roaming around and I actually saw an otter on the ice chasing the geese away. It was cool to see Radnor in a totally different way.

I bought a Gretsch Pro Jet about 5 years ago and over time it has become my favorite guitar. About a year ago I had it set up at Classic Ax and it plays amazingly well now. Sonically it is an awesome blend of Les Paul and Strat.

Sometimes I get in the car and head out in no particular direction and just see what I can find to shoot. I drove out Nolensville road a couple of weeks ago and ended up at Henry Horton state park. It was a gorgeous day and there were these huge trees silhouetted against the sky. One thing I love about winter is the abstractness of the trees. It's always nice to get outside with no destination, no plan and just enjoy nature.

Racing has always been a passion of mine. If it has a motor, chances are it will be fun to see how fast it will go. I had the chance to go to the Petit Lemans at Road Atlanta in September last year and had a great time. Lots of really cool cars and a cool track.

A few miles down the road is Radnor lake, a beautiful park in southern Nashville. It's nice to get over there and just wander around and take pictures. Except for being a little crowded sometimes and the occasional jet, it's very peaceful and relaxing and I usually end up with at least a couple of good shots.
